Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Your pet’s oral health is an important part of their overall health, comfort, and quality of life. Dental and oral conditions can cause pain, difficulty eating, chronic infection, and other complications that may not always be obvious at home. At Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care, our Dentistry and Oral Surgery service provides advanced evaluation, treatment, and surgical care for a wide range of oral and maxillofacial conditions.

Led by the only Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist® in Maine, our team offers specialized expertise for pets who need more advanced dental, oral, and facial care than routine primary care dentistry can provide.

Why Advanced Veterinary Dentistry Matters

Oral disease is extremely common in pets. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, signs of oral disease are present in many dogs and cats by age three. Symptoms can include bad breath, changes in eating or chewing, drooling, dropping food, loose or discolored teeth, pawing at the mouth, or facial discomfort.

Our goal is to identify the source of pain or disease, explain what is happening clearly, and build a treatment plan focused on both immediate needs and long-term oral health.
